VanderZee Organs

We seek opportunities to create small, mechanical-action organs of the highest quality, inspired by historical examples, yet adapted for modern settings. We are not bound to the work of any particular builder or national or historical strain of organbuilding; we aim to create instruments that excel at a particular liturgical or practical purpose.

We also provide service to nearly 100 pipe organs located in southwestern Ontario. This includes tuning, maintenance, repairs, revoicing, rebuilding and restoration. Under our care are instruments of nearly every action type and tonal style.

For our new organs, solid wood, locally harvested and seasoned in our shop, is used for casework, inner components and pipework. The use of stable, high-quality Baltic birch plywood is reserved only for select applications like windchest grids, where solid wood is impractical. Pipe metal alloys of any kind can be cast by us, and our complete pipe shop allows us to have control over all aspects of metal pipe production. Keyboards are made in-house, and can be covered in a variety of materials, such as ebony and cowbone. All voicing is carried out by Joel VanderZee in our shop, with tonal finishing done in the organ’s final home. Each organ is carefully engineered, designed and scaled to ensure reliability, elegant function, and beautiful tone.

We are a team of dedicated professionals, with a shop capable of every task involved in organ building, from woodworking and pipemaking, to the installation of computerized organ control systems. We offer flexibility, individualized planning, and an attention to the specific needs of each project that our large competitors cannot.
